We found our little bubble of a house on craigslist in Knoxville, TN in October of 2014. It is a 1996 17 ft Casita Spirit Deluxe from Rice, Texas. Unloaded it weighs in at around 2400 pounds light. It is molded fiberglass, which means that the the entire trailer is made from two pieces: the top and the bottom. This makes it very tough and long lasting. The fiberglass technology used here is the same that the marine industry uses for boat hulls.
Our solar system is a Renogy 150 W panel running to three 12 Volt batteries. We have never run out of power yet. Here is how we power our home:
Solar:
  • Lights
  • Water Pump
  • Laptops
  • Phones
  • Cell Phone Booster

Propane:

  • Water Heater
  • Furnace
  • Stove
  • Fridge

Most of our cooking is done on either the Double Flame fire pit or the Big Green Egg MiniMax. We go through a propane tank about every 2-3 weeks.

Interior:

We were not fans of the “fake wood” look of the cabinets so we painted them a nice chalk white. This really lightened up the space! We also got a new table made from Penwood Manufacturing, an Amish furniture manufacturer in Ohio. It’s American Maple with a natural finish.
